Architectural symbolism "Staircase": In the Empire, these clocks were conceived as miniature ancient temples (portals).

Stairs: The base of the clock is formed by several steps that lead "inside" the temple.

Chessboard inlay: The area in front of and behind the stairs (the floor of the portal) is inlaid with a multi-colored wooden contrasting checkerboard, which creates a strong perspective effect of depth.

Mirror: A mirror is placed on the back wall behind the columns, this optically doubles the number of columns and creates the illusion of an endless hall.
